Round 5: Easter Weekend Footy

We start Round 5 over the Easter festivities in Brisbane at the Gabba on Thursday night.  It’s the impressive Brisbane Lions taking on Collingwood, and whilst the Lions have made a solid start to the season, the midfield supremacy of the Magpies on that smaller ground will be to strong. Pies to win by 23 points.
2 games on Good Friday starting with North Melbourne taking on Essendon at Marvel Stadium. With the return to form by the Bombers in recent weeks and multiple goal scoring options, I’m tipping Essendon to make it 3 in a row by 21 points.
Over to Perth and the Eagles off a Derby win take on Port Adelaide who have stumbled in recent weeks after a promising start to the season.  This will be a tough and tight contest, however I’m tipping the Eagles who’ve had the wood on Port in recent years to win at home by 17 points.
3 games on Saturday starting with the impressive GWS Giants taking on the Fremantle Dockers in Canberra.  Whilst the Dockers have shown better signs this season, it’s their poor ball use that continues to hurt them, and against the Giants who are one of the best skilled sides in the AFL, I’m tipping the Giants to win by 26 points.
Melbourne fresh from their 1st win of the season last week against Sydney take on St Kilda at the MCG.  Another quality game to watch as the Saints have started the season impressively. Melbourne are the better side, and if they show up and play with the same intensity like last week, then I’m tipping the Dee’s to win by 14 points.
Richmond take on the struggling Sydney Swans at the MCG and with big Tom Lynch in great form, I’m tipping the Tigers to win by 30 plus points.
2 games on Easter Sunday starting with the Western Bulldogs taking on the winless Carlton Blues at Marvel Stadium.  The Blues have been close in a few games this year and I feel their confidence is struggling to get that 1st win. So Bulldogs for me by 28 points.
The disappointing Adelaide Crows take on the much improved Gold Coast Suns in Adelaide, and it’s the magical Eddy Betts’ 300th game.  The Crows need to show the football public that they are still a force to be reckoned with.  Adelaide to bounce back at home and win for Eddy by 24 points.
Last Game of the round and it’s on the traditional Easter Monday against one of the great rivalries over the past 12 years, Hawthorn taking on Geelong at the MCG in a blockbuster game. The Hawks have a few injury concerns, and I doubt Patrick Dangerfield will play 2 bad games in a row!!  So I’m tipping the Cats to bounce back and win by 15 points.
Happy Easter to you and your families and enjoy all the footy coming your way over the Easter Holiday Period.
