Round 20: The business end of the Season

We start Round 20 of the AFL Season with a lot of excitement. This is the business end of the season to see who finishes in the top 8 and the teams that consolidate home Finals.
Friday night Footy and its North Melbourne taking on Hawthorn at MRVL Stadium. Both teams lost last week so expect them both to bounce back to try and finish the year off well. The Hawks still have a chance to play finals, however they need to win this game. I’m tipping the Hawks by 17 points.
5 games on Super Saturday starting with Essendon taking on Port Adelaide at MRVL Stadium. The Bombers who are in the 8 are in the fight of their football life’s with Port hanging in at 10th spot and it’s now or never for the Power. Whilst the Bomber played poorly in the 1st half last week it was their 2nd half that reminded me why they are a top 6 side and with the form of Jake Stringer, I’m tipping Essendon to continue their winning streak. Bombers by 24 points.
GWS take on Sydney at Giants Stadium and the Giants have turned their season around nicely in the last month and their forward line power will be too much for Sydney. Giants by 21 points.
Fremantle take on Geelong at Optus Stadium and I’m going to make a dramatic statement here, Fremantle to bounce back and win this game. I don’t like that Geelong are coming over for a whole week to prepare for this game. A week away from your natural environment can be more problematic than good. Fremantle in a big upset by 10 points.
Melbourne take on Richmond at the MCG and it’s hard to make a case for the struggling Demons especially after what we witnessed last Friday night with the Tigers!! Richmond to win by 30 plus points.
The disappointing Crows take on St’ Kilda on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval and this is their season on the line!! The Saints have been very good in the last 2 weeks with care taker coach Brett Ratten, however I’m going to pick the Crows Midfield to stand up and be counted and lead the way for a home team victory. Crows by 21 points.
3 games on Sunday and we start with the early game at the MCG and it’s the struggling Collingwood take on the Gold Coast Suns who were very impressive last week in their narrow lost to Essendon. With DeGoey & Quaynor already confirmed not playing in this game it makes this contest very interesting. Collinwood need to bring back some of their best contested football back and to move the ball with pace like they have done when they were winning games. Won’t be easy but the Pies should bounce back and win this game by 22 points.
West Coast who had their best 4 quarter performance last week in some time take on the much improved Carlton at the MCG. Patrick Cripps is the best player in the Competition and the Eagles will need to put a lot of work in him. West Coast to win by 27 points.
Last game of the round and it’s the red hot Brisbane Lions taking on the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba. I reckon this will be a lot tighter game than some will suggest as the Lions have been up for a long period and the Bulldogs are just outside the top 8. I’m going for a bit of an upset and tipping the Bulldogs to play a fast ball moving game and win by 13 points.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the Footy!
