Round 18 of the 2018 AFL Season

We start Round 18 back at the traditional time slot of Friday night, now that the 6 Thursday night games are finished. I believe there will be an increase to 8 Thursday night games next year.

Friday night footy and it’s St ‘Kilda taking on Richmond at Etihad stadium, and whilst the Saints had a win last week I can’t see an upset here against the Tigers. Richmond by 32 points.

5 Games on Super Saturday and it starts with a big game – Collingwood taking on the Kangaroo’s at the MCG in what will be a tight game as both teams are fighting for a position in the top 8. Collingwood only had 3 goal kickers last week which is a concern, so I’m tipping the Kangaroo’s by 21 points.

Sydney take on the Gold Coast Suns at the SCG. The Suns are just not up to it with poor form and injuries, so tipping Swans to win this game by 30 plus points.

Essendon who have won 4 of their last 5 games take on Fremantle at Etihad Stadium and whilst Fremantle showed great spirt last week in their win against Port it’s their away form that is a major concern. Essendon to win by 30 plus points.

We go up to the GABBA and it’s the in-form Lions taking on the Adelaide Crows in what should be a close contest. The Young Lions are exciting to watch, however the Crows with a few players back are still in contention to make the finals. Crows to prevail by 18 points.

Geelong take on Melbourne in another interesting and tight game with both sides fighting to secure positions in the top 8. The game is in Geelong and the Cat’s need to win this game or they will drop out of the 8. They rarely lose at this venue so Geelong by 15 points.

3 Games on Sunday to finish off the round, starting with Carlton taking on Hawthorn and I expect the Hawks to bounce back after a poor game last week. Also Carlton are just not up to the standard of AFL football at the moment. Hawks by 30 plus points.

West Coast take on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium and with the sad news of Naitanui’s knee injury the Eagles will need Scott Lycett to stand up and take the lead in the Centre bounce downs. Lycett’s work around the ground can still help the Eagles be a major contender this year. At home the Eagles should win this game by 20 plus points.

Last game and it’s in Adelaide where Port will take on the Giants. The Power have had a few injury and form/attitude issues from last weeks poor loss against the Dockers and no Patrick Ryder will hurt the Power at stoppages around the ground. The GWS Giants on the other hand have hit some good form recently with some of their stars back including Toby Greene, so I’m tipping the Giants to win by 17 points.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the footy.
 Jako
