Round 19 of the 2018 AFL Season

We start Round 19 with the AFL Competition at it’s closest in history for teams securing positions, from top spot all the way to 12th that can shape the final 8 in the coming weeks. What a month of footy ahead with so much anticipation of the season’s end.

Friday night Footy at Etihad Stadium with Essendon, having won 5 of their last 6 games take on the stumbling Swans in what will be a tight game. Although I expect the Swans to bounce back and Buddy to dominate so Swans by 14 points.

Block Buster at the MCG with Richmond taking on Collingwood in what could be an attendance breaking record in a home and away fixture. Both teams are in great form and this will be a highly watched game, even by people who don’t support either team as the spectacle alone will be something to watch. Collingwood still haven’t beaten a team of any note so this will be their biggest test yet. I’m still tipping Richmond as they are the best defensive team in the comp and in big pressure games they are ruthless. Pies by 17 points.

Geelong who are just hanging in the top 8 take on the much improved and exciting Brisbane Lions down in Geelong. Another another great contest ahead. Geelong’s spirited 8 goal last quarter last week and with Tom Hawkins kicking 7 goals, I feel the Cats will be too strong in this game. Cats by 21 points.

GWS Giants are back in town and are the most dangerous side right now in the competition. They take on the struggling Saints at home in Sydney and I’m tipping Giants by 30 plus points!! It could be an ugly game for St’ Kilda supporters.

Gold Coast Suns who surprised the competition last week in their impressive win take on the struggling Carlton Blues up on the Gold Coast. Suns to make it 2 in a row and win by 25 points.

We go to Adelaide and it’s the late charging Crows taking on Melbourne who let a big opportunity slip through last week in what will be another tight contest. The Crows at home are hard to beat and with a few good players back in recent weeks I feel they will have enough strike power up in the forward to win this game by 12 points.

3 games on Sunday, starting with the Kangaroo’s who have faulted in recent weeks taking on the West Coast Eagles in Tasmania. A big game for both teams in the context of their respective season. This will be a tight game given the windy and wet conditions expected, however I’m leaning West Coast’s way as they have greater flexibility as a side tactically. Eagles by 10 points.

The Western Bulldogs take on Port Adelaide at Etihad Stadium in a must win game for Port if they are to make the top 4. The Bulldogs skill level is a concern over 4 quarters, so I’m tipping Port to win by 20 points.

Last game of the round and it’s in Perth with Fremantle taking on Hawthorn at Optus Stadium. The Dockers are now officially out of the race for the top 8, however they can still have a bearing on the teams above. They would also want to finish the season off well for themselves and their supporters. I’m tipping Hawthorn as they have a top 8 spot to secure and will be desperate to win this game as well as having class players across each of the lines. Hawks by 16 points.

Have a great weekend.

Regards
Jako
