Round 1: Kicking off the Season

Well the Summer is almost over and the footy season is about to start…. aren’t we all glad about that!
Round 1 Starts again on the popular Thursday night time slot with the traditional opening game between Richmond and Carlton at the MCG.  Whilst the Blue’s finished bottom last year, I do expect them to be more competitive and start to rise finally!  However, Richmond have to many seasoned players and should win this opening contest, Richmond by 22 points.
Friday night Footy, and its back to the MCG where Collingwood take on Geelong in another block buster. I’ve liked Collingwood’s pre-season, and with Jamie Elliot back in, their forward line looks even more dangerous. Pies by 11 points.
4 games on Saturday and we are back to the MCG where Melbourne are looking to stamp their authority early in 2019, they take on Port Adelaide who will want to prove a few critics wrong after a disappointing season last year. Being the first round I’ll stay with the home team and Melbourne to win by 18 points.
Next we go to Adelaide Oval where the Crows take on the Hawks, missing the 8 last season after making the Grand Final the year before, expect the Crows to jump out of the blocks and have a big year ahead. Crows to win this game comfortably. Crows by 32 points.
The Western Bulldogs take on the Swans at the new MRVL Stadium and I’m really interested to see how these 2 teams go in Season 2019. A lot of critics are predicting them both not to make the top 8, however Sydney traditionally are tough to beat and with Buddy fit and firing, I still think there is life left in the Swans. Sydney by 24 points.
We go up to the GABBA and it’s the much improved and new look Lions taking on the reigning premiers West Coast in what will be an interesting contest. I’m tipping the Eagles to win by 20 plus points.  However, they will want to make sure they don’t take these Lions lightly, as I have this young Brisbane team on the rise for 2019.
3 games on Sunday to finish off Round 1. We go up to Sydney to Spotless Stadium where the GWS Giants take on the much hyped up Essendon throughout the preseason in another big opening game. Tough to tip however I feel the Giants on their home ground should be good enough to win by 10 points.
St’ Kilda take on the Gold Coast Suns at MRVL Stadium and with these 2 teams predicted to finish towards the bottom of the ladder, a 1st up win for either of them will release a little bit of pressure going into the 1st few weeks of the season. Saints to win by 6 points.
Last game of the round and it’s over to Perth to Optus Stadium where the Fremantle Dockers take on North Melbourne in what will be a tough game for both teams who are looking to establish themselves for a good start to 2019. I’m tipping Freo to win this game by 19 points.
Have a great weekend of watching Round 1 ……. Footy is Back!!
