Round 17 - Derby Week
Jul 12th, 2017
We start Round 17 and it’s Derby week when the Town of WA is looking forward to who will end up with Bragging Rights for a whole 9 months.
Friday Night Footy starts at Etihad Stadium with the Saints Taking on the Bombers with both of these teams in strong contention for the top 8. Expect a physical contest between the 2 teams however I’m tipping the Saints as they are a more balanced side across the ground.
5 games across Saturday and no better way to start it with 2 of the best teams of the last decade in Geelong taking on the recently inspired Hawks in what should be another close game. I’ll pick the Cats but the Hawks will have their moments in this game.
Port Adelaide take on North Melbourne at home and I watched 1st hand last week the Power dismantle the Eagles here in WA so expect them to do the same to the Kangaroo’s. Power by 30 plus points.
Gold Coast take on Collinwood at home and I’ve tipped the Pies to many times this year only to see them lose the games you expect them to win so I’m tipping the Gold Coast Suns to win this game.
GWS take on Sydney in what will be a great contest as the Swans are getting better each week. This will be a fiery contest as the little brother Giants are not little anymore. Giants to win at home.
Melbourne take on the Adelaide Crows in Darwin away from either teams home ground. Whilst Melbourne have been one of the improving sides this year it’s hard to go past the Crows on last week’s dismantling of the reigning Premiers. Crows to win.
3 games on Sunday and we start with Richmond taking on the Brisbane Lions at Etihad Stadium. Whilst the Tigers were very disappointing last week expect them to bounce back as they have a top 4 position at stake!!
Carlton take on the Western Bulldogs at the MCG and I just can’t get a take on the Bulldogs at the moment other than they are struggling to handle the pressure of being the Reigning Premiers. Carlton will be hard to beat as they too have shown signs of improvement and are building for the Future. I’ll tip the Bulldogs as I expect them to bounce back at some stage as they are now in danger of missing the top 8 altogether if they don’t win this game.
Last game of the round and it’s Western Derby 46 and as always there will be no handshakes or pats on the back to each other it will be physical and when you have the opportunity you do what you need to do to win the game Fairly of Course!!!! I’m tipping West Coast to win as the they too are in danger of missing the 8 if they don’t win this game.
Have a great weekend!!
