The Company

Established in 1999 as a sister company to local manufacturer Tanks West Pty Ltd, West Coast Poly has earned an impressive reputation as the leading moulder of polyethylene storage tanks in Western Australia. Wholly West Australian owned the company has established a strong local and interstate market with over 350 distributors and resellers located throughout rural and metropolitan areas.

The Process

West Coast Poly utilises the rotomoulding process to produce products from high-grade polyethylene powder that meets AS4020 and AS 2070 the Australian Standards for materials in contact with drinking water and food products.

The process involves placing finely ground thermoplastic material inside a female mould and firing this in an oven while rotating on two perpendicular axis to obtain a homogeneous melting of the plastic on the surface. When complete the mould is transferred into a cooling phase while still rotating and finally the finished part is removed from the mould and the process restarted.

The Equipment

West Coast Poly manufactures all its water tanks in closed ovens with full bi-axial capability and digital control over production parameters, this insures a consistently well formed product with even wall thickness and maximized material properties.

The "Clark 500" double shuttle machine has the largest rotomoulding oven in Western Australia and is capable of forming water tanks with diameters up to 3.6 meters. The colossus of a machine, with individual carts weighing in excess of 11,000 kg is capable of moulding the large capacity heavy walled tanks required for chemical storage and industrial applications.

A "Hurricane 140" from STP Equipment is the latest addition to West Coast Poly's moulding plant. This high-speed twin shuttle was commissioned in July 2003 and is capable of moulding water tanks with diameters to 2.4 meters. The advanced computerized controls and enclosed cooling stations provide an extremely efficient moulding environment and have allowed production costs to be kept to a minimum.
